Weekly College Football Review

Week #5 in college football began with some good match ups on Thursday night. #24 Oklahoma State hosted Texas Tech, and #15 Arizona State hosted #11 UCLA. OSU protected home field, defeating the Red Raiders 45-35. Meanwhile in Tempe, UCLA came in and stomped all over the Sun Devils, with an embarrassing 62-27 rout of ASU.

Saturday had some very intriguing games throughout the day. First off, in Athens, #12 Georgia barely came out with a 35-32 victory over their much improved rival Tennessee. In Arlington, two old rivals faced off in Jerry world, and it was quite the rivalry game. Arkansas came to play, and they gave their all to beat #6 Texas A&M. After a 51 yard touchdown off a fake punt, it looked as though they would get the win, but A&M forced overtime, and sneaked past the Razorbacks. Meanwhile in Raleigh, #1 Florida State faced it’s second consecutive tough opponent. North Carolina State looked ready, and energized to face #1. The sold out crowd in Carter- Finley Stadium could feel the victory, but Heisman winner Jameis Winston didn’t let it happen. The Seminoles pulled out a 56-41 victory to remain unbeaten.

There were some games later on that were close too. #16 Stanford payed a visit to the Washington Huskies in Seattle. The Huskies kept it close, but Stanford won 20-13. Today’s ESPN College Game day game had the Missouri Tigers, visiting the South Carolina Gamecocks. The Tigers kept the trend of SEC East teams losing key games, as they pulled out a 21-20 win in Columbia, again shaking up the conference. #8 Notre Dame beat underdog Syracuse in New Jersey, 31-15. #7 Baylor kept rolling in Ames, with a 49-28 win over the Cyclones.

The best game to watch for next week is #3 Alabama visiting #10 Ole Miss, in a very big game in Oxford. Some upsets to look out for: Maryland hosting Ohio State, Texas hosting Baylor, Ole Miss hosting Alabama, TCU hosting Oklahoma, Mississippi State welcoming A&M to Starkville, and Kentucky hosting South Carolina.
