Football truly is a game of inches. A 4th and 1 conversion or a 3rd and 16 stop, and a totally different score might have resulted from Kyle Field in College Station. Instead, the University of Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners, only in their 6th football season, almost pulled off a massive upset of the #25 Texas A&M Aggies.
The Aggies, of the prestigious Southeastern Conference (SEC), play in one of college football’s most hostile environments, and just a few weeks ago, were ranked 4th and were in position to make the College Football Playoff. After three straight conference losses, the Aggies seemed primed for an upset, and the Roadrunners kept the game close all game to make the over 102k fans in attendance nervous. In the end, UTSA lost 23-10, but in reality, that result is as good as a victory for the young Roadrunners.
Beating Texas A&M in College Station would have been a colossal upset. While they came up just short of a win, keeping the Aggies close is nothing short of spectacular, and it’s a testament to 1st year head coach Frank Wilson. Now, the Roadrunners come home to San Antonio needing one more win to become bowl eligible for the first time in school history. They play the Charlotte 49ers on November 26th at the Alamodome, in front of a crowd ready to witness history. Making a bowl in just their 6th season would be another milestone in a short, but already incredible program history.
