Well, if you wanted upsets, you got upsets. Friday night provided two stunning results that saw two top ten teams lose on the road. The #8 Washington State Cougars, fresh off a victory over USC and a thrashing of Oregon, got rolled over by California. In Upstate New York, the defending National Champion Clemson Tigers lost to Syracuse in a monumental upset. All this and the Saturday games haven’t even started.
Six of the top ten teams are on the road this week, which is the perfect recipe for an upset. Two already lost, and I believe more are on the way. The #6 TCU Horned Frogs have given the BIG 12 hope this season, as they remain undefeated with some impressive road victories in Stillwater and Fayetteville. Today, however, I believe they’re in for a rude awakening in Manhattan, Kansas. Kansas State went to double overtime in Austin last week and lost a close one at Vanderbilt early in the season, but they’re a competitive team, especially at home. Look for the Wildcats to put a dent in the Horned Frogs’ Playoff hopes.
Down in Death Valley, the #10 Auburn Tigers visit the LSU Tigers. As always, the SEC will beat itself up, and LSU is ready to rock Auburn at home. One other game to look out for is #5 Washington at Arizona State. Washington hasn’t won in Tempe since 2001. It’s a late night game in the desert, and that’s when crazy things tend to happen.
After this weekend, the landscape of college football this season might be very different. Get ready for some upsets!
