Baseball has lost yet another young star, as Kansas City Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura was announced dead at just 25 years old after a fatal car crash in the Dominican Republic. Also this morning, former Major League corner infielder Andy Marte died in a separate car crash in the Dominican Republic. Marte last played in the Majors for the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2014.
Just months after losing superstar Jose Fernandez in a boating accident, baseball loses two more of its own. Ventura helped the Royals win he 2015 World Series and was a rising star. Most recently, he was known for getting into a fight on the field with Manny Machado, and for instigating problems against the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Angels. However, he always played the game with passion and with a smile on his face. He had incredible talent, and he is gone way too soon. Rest in peace Andy Marte and Yordano Ventura.
