Tuesday night, as conference play in college basketball heats up, three top five teams went down on the road. The #1 Villanova Wildcats lost in crazy final seconds at Marquette, leading to a well-deserved court-storming, as the Golden Eagles beat secured the huge win against the top team in the nation.
Just a few minutes earlier, the #18 West Virginia Mountaineers defeated the #2 Kansas Jayhawks, marking the fourth consecutive win for the Mountaineers against the Jayhawks in Morgan. Kansas had never before lost four consecutive games on the road to any Big 12 opponent, but WVU Coliseum has proved to be a house of horrors for Kansas.
After fans got over the top two teams in the country losing, #4 Kentucky fell in Knoxville to the un-ranked Tennessee Volunteers. Towards the end of the game, it looked as though Kentucky would come out on top, but the Volunteers held on for the stunner.
So, after a wild night of college basketball, the Gonzaga Bulldogs, the only undefeated team remaining, should be ranked #1. They better be careful though, because after tonight, it’s clear no team is safe in the always crazy college basketball season.
