Schoop, Jones deliver huge late, Birds take another one

At the start of the 5th, Micheal Pineda, who had not pitched since April 23, had not allowed the hit to the O’s. The Orioles were trailing all game after a 2 run homer from Francisco Cervelli. The offense was kept quiet by Pineda, and Dellin Betances, who had come in and pitched two scoreless innings.

With one out in the 8th, Yankee killer Jonathan Schoop, kept his attack on the Yankees going, sending a homer just over the left field wall, tying the game at two. That brought Betances out of the game, and brought in Sean Kelley. That didn’t help much. Markakis singled, and Davis drew a full count walk. Up came Adam Jones. Before you had a chance to think about the situation, Jones was first pitch swinging, and crushed a 3 run homer to left center, sending Camden Yards into a frenzy. The near sellout crows was practically shaking the stadium. You could fell the magic happening.

The Yankees didn’t go down without a fight though, bringing the tying run to the plate, and scoring one bringing the lead down to 5-3. Zach Britton finished the Yanks off though, and brought home another Orioles victory.

The Orioles are now a season high 19 games over .500, and lead the Yankees by whole 8 games. Depending on the Jays result in Seattle, the Orioles could be 7 games ahead Toronto as well. You can really feel the magic in Baltimore right now, as game in and game out the Orioles just bring their A game. They go now on a 9 game road trip, in which they fave Cleveland, and then below .500 teams in the Cubs and White Sox. Coming into this last stretch of the season, the O’s could be running away with the East.
