Red Sox Spend Big Money On Big Free Agents

On this Monday, November 24, the Boston Red Sox are the first big spenders of the MLB off season. They have pulled off the double play by signing former Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop, Hanley Ramirez, and former San Francisco Giants third baseman, Pablo Sandoval. The Deals are reported to be 4 years- $88 million for Ramirez, and Sandoval for 5 years close to $100 million.

These are two very interesting deals as Ramirez has played less than 100 games in 2 of the last 4 seasons. He is also known for being troublesome in the locker room if he doesn’t get what he wants. He will likely play left field in Boston unless the Red Sox trade some of their other outfielders.

In Sandoval’s case, he was beloved in San Francisco, and it appears he turned down the Giants offer although it was almost identical to the one he accepted from Boston. It’ll be interesting to see how he handles the tough Boston market, which is very different from San Francisco.

The Red Sox may not be done either, as they have an offer placed on Jon Lester, and have serious talks with the Philadelphia Phillies for starter Cole Hamels.

In other news, the Seattle Mariners locked up their start third baseman, Kyle Seager, with an extension of 7 years, $100 million. The Mariners seem to be ready to make a run in the American League West.
