The Orioles won their second straight game in Anaheim, on the back of Miguel Gonzalez’s brilliant outing. He held the league leaders in runs to just two runs, which came late in the game.
Both teams were held scoreless in the beginning of the game, but both got there different ways. Hector Santiago seemed to be asking to get beat, as his pitch count was very high, but he didn’t allow but a scratch. Meanwhile, Miguel Gonzalez had a very efficient outing, and had almost half the pitches that Santiago had through 5 innings.
In the 6th, with two outs is where the rally started. Chris Davis got a little dribbler infield hit, and was followed by a double in the gap that brought in the hustling Davis all the way around to score. Next up was Jonathan Schoop, who hit a bomb out to the rocks in left center field.
That was more then enough runs for Miguel Gonzalez, who actually got one more run on another J.J. Hardy RBI double. Miguel cruised until two outs in the 8th, when Mike Trout hit a towering two run homer out to right center, sending Miguel out of the game. Tommy Hunter came on to get the final out of the inning.
After being hit in the arm last night, Zach Britton came on to get the save. He got two strikeouts, and a flyout to get the win.
The Orioles are now 55-44, and remain 4 games up on first with both Toronto and New York winning their games. The O’s are also 8 up on Tampa Bay, and 8.5 on Boston.
