The Baltimore Orioles have acquired Travis Snider from the Pittsburgh Pirates, in exchange for minor league pitcher Stephen Tarpley, and a player to be named later. To make room on the 40 man roster, Michael Ohlman has been designated for assignment. I really like this trade, as the Orioles finally got that left handed outfielder they’ve been wanting, and they didn’t give up a whole lot. Snider has decent speed, is a good defender, has some power, and will be helped by playing in lefty friendly Camden Yards. Also, Snider has two years remaining on his contract, and has Major League experience. Now the Orioles won’t have to start Steve Pearce or Delmon Young everyday, and can now have more of a platoon system.
It’s funny how the day after it seems Dan Duquette is staying, a deal is made. It seems fishy, but it’s good to see Dan making smart, sneaky moves again.
