Orioles Re-sign Mark Trumbo

The Orioles have re-signed 2016 AL home run leader Mark Trumbo on a 3 year- $37.5 million deal. Many are skeptical about the move, saying the Orioles don’t need more power. Well, a team never wants to lose 47 home runs. Considering he led the league in home runs, and that he originally wanted $80 million, this is a steal for the Orioles. A lot of his critics attack his defense, as he played a very shaky right field last season. However, the Orioles traded for Seth Smith, who will most likely start in right field and keep Trumbo in the designated hitter slot.

With the additions of Wellington Castillo, Seth Smith, and now retaining Trumbo, a very good Orioles offense just got even better. With a rotation set up, a stellar bullpen back, and an explosive offense, the Orioles should be better in 2017 than in 2016, when they still made the playoffs as the second Wild Card team. Still, the Orioles don’t seem to be done making moves, as Dan Duquette is known for his late off-season acquisitions.
