After a 40 home run season with the Baltimore Orioles, all star Nelson Cruz is heading to the Pacific Northwest. The Seattle Mariners today signed Cruz to a four year, $58 million deal. The Orioles would have loved to keep Cruz, as without him they don’t get close to the ALCS. Cruz was extremely productive, and he will be missed in Baltimore. Many O’s fans are upset, but at 35 years old, The Orioles were unwilling to give Cruz a four year deal. I think it’s a good addition for Seattle, but I also think the Orioles did the right thing in not keeping him. He had his best year, and at 35 his production might be going downhill. Now though, there is no reason Nick Markakis should not be re-signed. With Cruz, and Miller most likely gone, give Markakis what he wants.
