Jones and Norris carry O’s to win over Halos

After a tough series in Oakland, the Orioles came into Anaheim to face a red hot Angels team. We all know that this 10 game, west coast road trip is huge for the O’s, as they play 3 of the hottest teams in the league. On this 4th game today, the O’s got a great win.

It started as most rallies do for the O’s, with a leadoff single by Nick Markakis. Then with 1 out, Adam Jones got a 2-0 fastball where he liked it and sent it into the Angels bullpen.

The bottom of the first, started with a single, and an error by Jonathan Schoop on a potential double play ball, and got two on with no outs. The Angels got 1 in, but that was all.

In the 4th, the Angels tied the game up, and got the bases loaded for All Star game MVP Mike Trout. Bud Norris got him looking at a 2-2 fastball that might have been outside, and Mike Trout plead his case for just that.

Both pitchers really cruised through the game, with both getting a lot of strikeouts. Angels pitcher Matt Shoemaker had retired 16 in a row before Markakis doubled with 1 out in the 6th. Then again came Jones who hit a 443ft homer out near the water falls in left center. After a Cruz single, the O’s sent Shoemaker packing.

In the 7th, up came Mike Trout again, who after arguing strikes his last time up, got some more calls against him to strike out, bringing manager Mike Sciochia out for a talk. A Pujols single brought in Brian Matusz, who completely dominated Josh Hamilton to end the inning.

The O’s finished it off with Darren O Day and Zach Britton setting down 6 in a row to close it out. The Orioles picked up a game on both New York and Toronto, and stand 4 games up on both of the.
