Week 6 in College Football, was filled with crazy games, and upsets all over the country. It started on Thursday night in Eugene, where Arizona marched in and defeated #2 Oregon, and on Friday night in Provo, where up and coming #18 BYU lost at home to Utah State. That was just the beginning.
There were many great games this Saturday, but no one experienced bigger days, than the residents in the state of Mississippi. Today was the day for both Magnolia State schools to make a big statement. They did just that.
First off in Starkville, the #12 Mississippi State Bulldogs hosted the #6 Texas A&M Aggies. The Cowbells were ringing all game long in Davis Wade Stadium, as the Bulldogs ran all over the Aggies, 48-31. Today marked the first time in Mississippi State history that they beat a top 10 school in two straight weeks. It won’t stop there. Next week, they host the defending SEC champion Auburn Tigers.
Less than 100 miles north of Starkville in Oxford, #11 Ole Miss hosted #3 Alabama, College Gameday, and all the hype that comes with hosting the Crimson Tide. It was a crazy day in the Grove, and it was a crazy game. In the last 5 minutes, Ole Miss tied it up, got a fumble on the kickoff, scored on that next drive, and then intercepted a pass in the end zone, to send Rebel fans into a frenzy. They rushed the field, and even tore down the goal posts. It was the scene that sealed the historic day in Mississippi, with both teams getting huge victories.
Unbelievably, there were games in other states too. #25 TCU, upset #4 Oklahoma in a crazy game in Fort Worth, leading to fans rushing the field. Fans also rushed the field in Evanston, as Northwestern locked up a second straight shocking BIG 10 win, beating #17 Wisconsin. #9 Notre Dame, scored a last minute touchdown, to win their rivalry game in South Bend against #14 Stanford. #5 Auburn clobbered #15 LSU, 41-7. Arizona State stunned #16 USC, with a last second, game winning, Hail Mary. #19 Nebraska, lost their first game of the year to #10 Michigan State, 27-22. Late night in Los Angeles, the other ranked LA team, #8 UCLA, lost to unranked Utah at home. South Carolina and Michigan continued their meltdowns, as they both lost on the road to Rutgers, and Kentucky respectively.
It’ll be hard to follow up this week, but there are some great match-ups next week. Texas and Oklahoma play their annual Red River Rivalry. Oregon and UCLA look to bounce back after tough losses. Ole Miss and Mississippi State look to keep rolling, as the Rebels visit Texas A&M, and the Bulldogs host Auburn. In Waco, Baylor hosts TCU in a huge BIG 12 game. Some upsets to look out for are: Florida State at Syracuse, Alabama at Arkansas, and Michigan State at Purdue. I got 4 of 6 upset picks correctly last week. Let’s see if I can keep it rolling.
