College Football Is Back

The most wonderful time of the year is back! No, it’s not the holiday season, it’s college football season! Although there’s been a few games already, today marks the official return to action for college football.

It wouldn’t be college football is there weren’t already an upset, and the Maryland Terrapins provided that and more. The Terps stormed into Austin for the first game of the much anticipated Tom Herman era and trounced the 23rd ranked Longhorns in front of their anguished fans. It was an absolute stunner, and though the Longhorns made many mistakes, the Terrapins played an incredible game and deserve credit for not backing down to an immense challenge at DKR Texas Memorial Stadium.

Tonight, the biggest opening match-up in college football history takes place at the brand new Mercedes- Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. The top ranked Alabama Crimson Tide look to avenge their championship loss last year, but they’ll go up against the third ranked Florida State Seminoles. It’s the first time ever that a top ranked team faces off against another top three team in week one, so this is a gigantic opener between two powerhouse programs.

Throughout the season I’ll keep a close eye on the happenings across the country and I’ll also continue my upset watch ahead of every weekend. Looking ahead to next week, my first upset alert is for the #15 Georgia Bulldogs. They march into Notre Dame to face a reenergized Fighting Irish squad. SEC teams don’t often play non-conference road games, so look for Fighting Irish to upset the Bulldogs at home.

Now it’s time to sit back and enjoy what’s sure to be another fantastic college football season.
