Our second New York game-day began very early in the morning with a Nicki Minaj concert in Central Park for Good Morning America’s free summer concert series. After more walking around during the day, we took off on yet another subway, this time to Queens. Before we knew it, we had arrived at Citi Field, home of the New York Mets.
Lucky for us it was Jacob DeGrom t-shirt night, so we got some awesome orange shirts with DeGrom’s long hair silhouette on the front. I like rooting for the home team wherever we go (except the Yankees, Red Sox and Blue Jays of course), and tonight I was rooting for the Mets even though they were playing my dad’s Dodgers. Right away the biggest difference between here and Yankee Stadium was the friendliness from everyone working at Citi Field. It felt more like home and more like a ballpark. Mr. Met certainly helps!
Before the game there was a pup-parade on the field, and rather than wait in the endless Shake Shack line we decided to try to catch some batting practice home runs in left field. Don’t worry, we got some great Nathan’s hot dogs later, one of the best hot dogs I’ve had.
The game itself proved to be great for the Dodgers. Yasiel Puig, Justin Turner and Jimmy Rollins all homered, so the big home crowd was fairly quiet. With Alan, my oldest brother, flying out to meet us starting at this game, it was incredible to have all six of us together at the ballpark. There’s nothing better than baseball with family!
