On Friday night, after two straight road games, the Alamo Heights Mules returned home to face their longtime district rival, the Kerrville Tivy Antlers. The match-up between these two foes featured a seesaw battle last year, with the Antlers pulling the win out late. This year, it was a completely different story.
Coming in to this game, Alamo Heights was 4-0, with impressive victories over New Braunfels and Brandeis. Meanwhile, Kerrville limped in at 0-4 and struggling. The Mules wasted no time jumping ahead 21-0 in the first quarter. The closest Kerrville came to making it a game was 27-14 after halftime, but that didn’t last long.
Senior quarterback Will Chaney, senior running back Deryl Reynolds, and sophomore wide receiver Nik Proctor lead the Mules to a 48-14 destruction of their rival. Alamo Heights turned what almost always is a down to the wire game into a rout and sent the Antlers home at 0-5. The Mules improved to 5-0 heading into their bye week before a district road game in Seguin.
It’s setting up to be a special season at Alamo Heights. The undefeated start positions them well for a back-loaded end of season schedule where they’ll face Dripping Springs, Medina Valley, and of course, their biggest rival, the Boerne Champion Chargers.
Great article! Go Mules!!
